Take Our Message to Washington!

Do you want meaningful action on global warming and renewable energy? Do you want it now? Do you like to bicycle country roads and meet fun people engaged in making a difference? If so, join the Brita Climate Ride 2008, the first multi-day bicycle tour where you pedal to raise money and awareness of climate change and hope for a future powered by renewable energy and a green economy.

Join us today for a bike ride you will never forget.
  1. Developing and supporting a U.S. climate change policy that is economically efficient, environmentally sound, pragmatic, and bipartisan.

  2. Working with communities throughout the Northeast to inventory and reduce their greenhouse gases across all of their civil sectors.

  3. Educating business leaders on how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the workplace with an eye on saving money, improving morale, and attracting new customers.

  4. Providing free inventory software and hands-on support to college and university partners looking to measure their campus greenhouse gas emissions and educate the next generation of climate stewards and environmental professionals.

  5. Collaborating with science center and museum educators to design fun and rigorous climate change educational tools.

Nearly a million people at 1,900 Focus the Nation events in January 2008 came together for a day of climate solutions education and began a conversation with 64 members of Congress and countless local and state politicians. Building on that momentum, Focus is continuing to empower a generation to accelerate the transition to a just and prosperous clean energy future in these ways:

Community education - Focus teams will become a resource for education on climate science, policy and action in their communities. To make the most impact possible, Focus teams will take the energy and expertise of student leaders and educators off campus and into neighboring communities in each of the 435 Congressional districts around the country.

Sustained engagement with elected officials - Moving towards the election, into 2009 and beyond, Focus teams will build working relationships with elected officials at all levels. During the first 100 days of the new administration, Focus teams will engage every member of the 111th Congress to demand swift action on climate change.

Leadership development for the climate movement - Focus will work in partnership with governments, businesses and community organizations to connect young people to decision makers and amplify their collective voices.

Networking and support for youth initiatives - Focus the Nation and the Green House Network will continue to support emerging youth leaders who are turning visions of a clean energy future into present-day reality in communities around the country.
